It is
an honor for me to write about a Spanish who came to learn and practice martial
arts in Thailand. Some years ago, after Pedro Solana was a middleweight
champion of Muay Thai in the US, he traveled to Thailand, hoping to find his
own life purpose. Muay Boran, Thai dual swords, Krabi-Krabong (Sword and Staff)
are the martial arts that he wished to know more. He thought they are effective to his inner
life. There is a motto for the martial arts camp he founded in Mae Taeng,
Chiang Mai. “The main goal of our school is not just fighting opponents, our
training also includes meditation to overcome inner weakness. Warriors for
life”. This is my first step for promoting Thai martial arts.
With Kru Kung
For
the next step, I have talked to Mr. Suphaphong
Somphong who has an accommodation business in Chiang Mai. He contacted me
because the new season of Dual swords, Krabi-Krabong and Muay Thai trainings has
recently begun in Winter. This is corresponding to the high season schedule
from Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Suphaphong informed me that there were
many foreigners came to his apartment and he arranged sword training sessions
in the evening. He said he would be delightful if I could come to see their
training. 1st November 2017 was the day my my article went online at
www.scene4.com. It was an interview with Pedro Solana in Thai and English. Suphaphong
introduced me to Kru Kung (Phongphisit Panyasri) who is the current school head
and Senior Master instructor of Sri Ayutthaya Chiang Mai School of
Swordsmanship. As far as I know, Pedro Solana is the master instructor of this
school as he occasionally come to teach weapon training on Sundays after he
passed the sacred ceremony to indoctrinate students which was performed by Kru Wimol
Thongma 2 years ago. Apart from Kru
Kung, there are also three Senior Master Instructors (Kru Wimol Thongma, Kru
Manat Chanthorn and Kru Auayporn Hemasikhantaka) who act as advisors for this
school. Kru Kung told me briefly about himself and the
origin of the school of swordsmanship which was founded by Kru Aree Boonhuang,
the grandmaster. From the beginning, Kru Aree had direct disciples including
Kru Manus Chanthorn (Kru Nas), Kru Wimol Thongma (Kru Daeng), Kru Auayporn
Hemasikhantaka (Kru Jook) and Kru Thanya Trinumit (Kru Daeng).
